September 2025 Athlete of the Month
Zaida Moncrief
About Zaida Moncrief
This month, we’re honored to shine the spotlight on Zaida Moncrief, a true example of perseverance, positivity, and personal growth. Zaida joined CrossFit Broken Chains in February 2025 seeking a new challenge—and what she’s found is so much more than a workout.
Zaida came to CFBC looking for a program that would push her both physically and mentally. As someone living with rheumatoid arthritis, she needed a space where training could be adapted, and support would be constant. She found exactly that.
Why She Chose CFBC
“I wanted a workout that would challenge me physically and mentally, and a community that could hold me accountable. I also needed a place where I could adapt my training safely, since I live with rheumatoid arthritis.”
From day one, Zaida has shown up with purpose and determination. The CFBC coaching staff and community quickly became her anchor—even on tough days.
“The coaches and athletes make every workout meaningful. Even on tough days, their support motivates me to keep showing up. I also love the variety—each day brings something new.”
Breakthrough Moments
Zaida is about to compete in her first 343 Hero Challenge, and she’s been hitting PRs in her deadlift training—an incredible milestone, especially while managing a chronic condition.
“Both moments reminded me how far I’ve come.”
She’s also found strength and progress in movements like rowing and double-unders, celebrating small wins while still pushing toward new goals—like mastering gymnastics movements and handstands.
How CrossFit Has Changed Her Life
“It’s given me confidence, discipline, and resilience. Managing RA while training has taught me to listen to my body, pace myself, and celebrate progress in all forms. CrossFit has helped me tackle challenges both in and out of the gym. I’ve built a stronger mindset, no matter what life throws at me.”
Zaida’s Advice for New Members
“Focus on showing up and giving your best—don’t worry about anyone else. The person that you’re competing against is yourself. Progress comes one rep, one class at a time. And if you have any health conditions, speak with the coaches; they’ll help you train safely and effectively.”
What the CFBC Bond Means to Her
For Zaida, the CFBC Bond isn’t just a statement—it’s a lived experience.
“It’s having a family that supports you, cheers for you, and pushes you to be better—even on days when you think you can’t. That bond makes the hardest workouts feel doable.”
Shoutouts
“A huge thank you to all the coaches—especially during barbell training—for keeping me safe, pushing me to improve, and celebrating every win along the way. And to my fellow athletes: you are truly some of the kindest, most inspiring people, and it’s an honor to train alongside you.”
Final Words
Zaida’s journey is a reminder that strength isn’t just measured by weights lifted or reps completed—it’s also found in showing up, overcoming obstacles, and leaning into community. Her resilience, humility, and joy make her a powerful presence in the gym and a role model for every athlete at CFBC.
We’re proud to have Zaida as part of the CFBC family and can’t wait to cheer her on at the 343 Hero Challenge.
