Built Through Consistency: Thomas Dunn’s 8-Year Commitment to the CFBC Way

March Athlete of the Month – CrossFit Broken Chains

In a world where most people struggle to stay consistent for a few weeks, Thomas Dunn has quietly been putting in the work for nearly a decade.

Since joining CrossFit Broken Chains in July 2017, Thomas has become a cornerstone of the CFBC community — a steady, disciplined presence who shows up, pushes hard, and leads by example. At 40 years old, his journey isn’t just about fitness — it’s about commitment, perseverance, and living out the values of the CFBC Bond day in and day out.

Where It All Started

Like many great stories, Thomas’s began with a simple invitation — from someone close to him.

  • “Candace,” he says, crediting his wife for bringing him through the doors of CFBC for the first time.

What started as a step into something new quickly became a lifestyle.

More Than Just a Workout

Ask Thomas why he’s stayed for over 8 years, and his answer reflects something deeper than fitness.

  • “Relationships. I love seeing people break chains — physically, but especially spiritually. And I’m always here to challenge myself to go harder.”

That mindset — not just showing up, but showing up with purpose — is what has made Thomas a respected and admired athlete within the gym.

A Competitor’s Mindset

This past year, Thomas reached a major milestone:

Landing on the podium in the CFBC Intramural Open.

  • “That’s my proudest moment,” he says.

It’s a reflection of years of consistency, discipline, and a willingness to embrace the grind — even when it’s uncomfortable.

His favorite movement? Rope climbs.

His biggest challenge? Double unders.

Like any seasoned athlete, he embraces both — the movements he excels at and the ones that humble him.

Strength Forged Through Challenge

For Thomas, CrossFit has been about more than physical strength.

  • “It’s strengthened my perseverance. It’s taught me the value of suffering.”

It’s a simple statement, but one that carries weight. The willingness to endure, to push through discomfort, and to keep going — that’s where real growth happens.

Advice from Experience

After nearly nine years inside the gym, Thomas keeps his advice straightforward:

  • “Just keep getting into the box.”

No shortcuts. No overcomplication. Just consistency.

Living the CFBC Bond

When asked what the CFBC Bond means to him, Thomas answers in one word:

  • “Devotion.”

It’s a word that perfectly captures how he trains, how he shows up for others, and how he’s built his journey over time.

Shoutouts

  • “Shoutout to all the coaches who put in the extra hard work to keep me working hard!”

Final Words

Thomas Dunn may not be the loudest voice in the room — but his actions speak volumes.

For nearly nine years, he has shown what it means to:

  • Stay committed
  • Push through challenges
  • Build relationships
  • And live out the CFBC mission every single day

He is proof that transformation isn’t always flashy — sometimes, it’s built quietly, one workout at a time.

And after 8+ years… he’s still going.
