From Uncertainty to Unshakable: Mexi De Santiago’s CrossFit Journey

October Athlete of the Month – CrossFit Broken Chains

By CFBC Staff Writer

At 27, Mexi De Santiago never imagined she’d find herself surrounded by barbells, box jumps, and a community of athletes cheering her on. But after just one year at CrossFit Broken Chains, it’s hard to picture her anywhere else.

Before joining CFBC, Mexi was a regular gym-goer — but one who felt lost. “I had no idea what I was doing,” she admits. “I’d stick to the treadmill or machines because I didn’t know how to use free weights.” That all changed one night when she came across a post on Instagram about CrossFit. Something clicked. Curious and craving something more, she searched for nearby gyms and found CFBC.

“It was the best decision I’ve made for my fitness,” she says. “But honestly, it’s been about more than just fitness — it’s been faith, discipline, and community.”

A New Kind of Strength:

What keeps Mexi coming back isn’t just the workouts — though she loves a good box jump or endurance challenge. It’s the people.

“CFBC feels like family,” she explains. “The motivation and accountability from the coaches and athletes keep me consistent. They lift me up — physically, emotionally, spiritually.”

Her proudest moments haven’t been about numbers or times. Instead, they’ve come from within.

“There was a time I doubted myself. But through these workouts, the encouragement, and God’s grace, I’ve learned that I’m capable of so much more.”

That mental shift has been the biggest win. She now moves with confidence — not just in the gym, but in life.

Faith That Moves:

CFBC’s faith-based culture struck a deep chord with Mexi. “Being part of a faith-based CrossFit community has been such a blessing,” she says. “The people here and the workouts remind me daily that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Even when the workouts push her limits, she never feels alone. “All workouts challenge me,” she admits, “but that’s the point. They push me — and I grow.”

One of the most powerful moments of her journey happened not during a workout, but on the day she signed up.

“Coach Phill walked me through the enrollment process, and when we finished, he asked if he could pray for me. He had no idea what I was going through at the time — it was a really tough season of my life. That simple act of faith and kindness meant so much. It reminded me that I was exactly where God wanted me to be.”

Words to the Hesitant:

To anyone feeling unsure, Mexi’s advice is clear:

“Just show up and trust the process. It’s not about being perfect or lifting the heaviest weights. It’s about growing stronger, one day at a time. Give yourself grace. Celebrate small victories. Let your faith guide you when it gets hard — God’s strength will carry you farther than you think.”

Living the Bond:

For Mexi, the CFBC Bond isn’t just a phrase on the wall. It’s the daily reminder that she’s part of something bigger than herself.

“No matter what kind of day I’m having, I know I’m walking into a place filled with encouragement, faith, and people who truly care. That support keeps me grounded and motivated.”

Final Shoutouts:

Mexi extends her thanks to every coach who’s guided her along the way, helping her improve with patience and encouragement. But one coach stands out:

“Coach Phill, thank you. You didn’t know what I was carrying that day, but you still took the time to pray for me. You reminded me that I wasn’t alone — and that God had me exactly where I needed to be.”

Final Words

Mexi De Santiago’s journey is one of quiet strength, daily faith, and bold transformation. From not knowing where to start to now inspiring others with every rep, she reminds us that sometimes all it takes is one step — and one invitation — to change your life.

She showed up. She trusted the process. And now, she’s leading by example.
