From Stuck to Strong: How Liz Found Her Breakthrough at CrossFit Broken Chains

Just one year ago, Liz stood at a familiar crossroads — physically tired, spiritually disconnected, and emotionally overwhelmed by yet another failed attempt to reclaim her health.

“I had tried everything,” she recalls. “Diets, surgeries, programs — nothing ever stuck. I was stuck in a cycle of excuses and setbacks. Even after getting the gastric sleeve back in 2018 and losing 90 pounds, I started gaining weight again just a year later. I needed something different.”

What she found was CrossFit Broken Chains — and a new beginning.

A Different Kind of Gym

Liz first walked through CFBC’s doors in the fall of 2024, inspired by the transformations she had seen in her neighbors and friends. “They told me about this gym that focused on both faith and fitness,” she says. “That combination really drew me in.”

What she feared most wasn’t the workouts — it was failing. “I was afraid this would be just another thing I wouldn’t stick with,” she admits. “I was used to giving up on myself.” Past experiences of being stared at or made fun of while working out had left emotional scars. But from the moment she stepped into class, something felt different.

“The coaches met me where I was. The people were encouraging. And at the end of that first group class, I realized — there was no anxiety. Just one amazing hour spent becoming the best version of myself.”

The Power of Progress

Since joining CFBC, Liz’s physical transformation has been undeniable — but the real change goes far deeper.

“I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, but the biggest shift is confidence. I walk taller. I push harder. I believe in myself,” she says. “CrossFit Broken Chains gave me back discipline, purpose, and a connection to my faith that I had been missing.”

A turning point came when she finished a workout she once thought was impossible. “In that moment, I realized I was capable of so much more — physically, mentally, and spiritually.” She also reached a lifelong milestone: entering “one-derland” on the scale — her weight dropping below 200 pounds for the first time in her adult life.

A Safe Place to Grow

More than anything, Liz credits the CFBC community for helping her stay the course.

“This is more than a gym. It’s a family,” she says. “The coaches truly care. The athletes cheer each other on. And the faith-centered environment reminds me where my strength comes from.”

Each class became her sanctuary — a daily reminder of what’s possible when you stop doubting and start doing.

A Message to Anyone Who’s Struggling

To others who feel the way she once did, Liz has one message: Just start.

“You don’t have to be ready or fit. You just have to show up. CFBC will meet you where you are and help you grow in ways you can’t even imagine yet.”

And to her CFBC family?

“Thank you for believing in me, pushing me, and reminding me of my strength. To anyone out there who’s struggling — your story isn’t over. Take the first step. You’ll find freedom here — one rep, one prayer, one day at a time.”
