Leading by Example: How Cortnie Is Inspiring the Next Generation Through Fitness

June 2026 Athlete of the Month – CrossFit Broken Chains

When Cortnie first walked through the doors of CrossFit Broken Chains in September 2024, she had a simple goal in mind. She wanted to lose weight before her brother's destination wedding. What she found was much more than a fitness program.

Less than a year later, Cortnie has become one of the most consistent and respected members of the CFBC community. While she may not be the loudest athlete in the room, her work ethic, determination, and steady progress have made a lasting impression on everyone around her. Most importantly, she's inspiring the people who matter most: her family.

A Search for Something Different

Like many people, Cortnie found traditional commercial gyms intimidating and difficult to stick with. "I knew I needed a change," she says. "I liked the structured classes because I felt they would help keep me consistent. "That decision proved to be life-changing.

What started as a weight-loss goal quickly evolved into a journey of physical, mental, and emotional growth.

More Than Physical Results

While Cortnie is proud of the progress she's made in the gym, it's the community that has kept her coming back. "Besides the physical results, it's the uplifting community we have. Our coaches have been extremely helpful in my fitness journey, and I've met some amazing athletes along the way." Those relationships have helped fuel her success, but one particular moment stands out above all the others.

When asked about her proudest accomplishment at CFBC, Cortnie doesn't mention a personal record or a difficult workout. Instead, she talks about her daughter. "My oldest daughter complimenting my progress and wanting to work out at home and in the box with me." For Cortnie, that's what makes the journey worthwhile. "I'm getting to really show them that we can do hard things and that taking care of your body is so important."

It's a powerful reminder that the impact of fitness often extends far beyond the gym floor.

Finding Confidence Through Challenge

Cortnie has developed a particular love for barbell work. Her favorite movements are power cleans and squat cleans. "I can't wait to really start moving more weight," she says. At the same time, she's honest about the movements that still challenge her. "Snatches, for sure. But I'm determined to get them."

That determination has become a hallmark of her journey. Rather than avoiding difficult skills, she embraces them and continues showing up with a willingness to learn.

Building Strength Inside and Out

The changes Cortnie has experienced since joining CFBC go far beyond physical fitness. "It's changed me in so many positive ways. Physically and mentally, I'm pushing myself every class. I've learned so much about nutrition and fueling my body. I'm more confident, and I'm pretty proud of my progress so far."

Confidence, discipline, and consistency are qualities that tend to carry over into every area of life, and Cortnie is a perfect example of that transformation.

Advice for New Athletes

For anyone considering taking that first step, Cortnie's advice is refreshingly simple. "Keep showing up and don't overcomplicate your diet. It isn't easy, but it is simple. And of course, consistency is key." It's a lesson she has lived firsthand.

Progress doesn't come from perfection. It comes from showing up repeatedly, trusting the process, and staying committed when motivation fades.

Living the CFBC Bond

When asked what the CFBC Bond means to her, Cortnie points to accountability and leadership. "The Bond is a reminder that not only am I to hold myself accountable, but also my fellow athletes, and to be a beacon to those that I encounter in life." That mindset is one of the reasons she was selected as Athlete of the Month.

She doesn't just focus on her own growth. She helps create an environment where others can succeed as well.

 A Community Worth Celebrating

Cortnie is quick to recognize those who have supported her journey. "Thank you to the coaches for all the knowledge, tips, encouragement, and support that you share each class." She also expressed gratitude for the friendships she has built along the way. "I'm so proud of each of you, and I'm so grateful I joined the CFBC family."

Final Words

Cortnie's story reminds us that transformation isn't always loud. Sometimes it's found in the early morning alarm clock, the extra rep, the healthier choice, or the example being set for the next generation.

Less than a year ago, she came to CFBC looking to prepare for a wedding. Today, she's stronger, healthier, more confident, and inspiring her daughters through her actions. And in many ways, that's what the CFBC Bond is all about.
